Workshop: Intro. to Cyanotype Printing
April 5, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Description
The cyanotype process uses a chemical mixture that creates Prussian blue images when exposed to UV light and washed in water. This technique was invented in 1841 by Sir John Herschel and popularized by photographer and botanist Anna Atkins. The process of creating cyanotypes is a great introduction to alternative photographic methods. The steps are simple to follow and appropriate for a wide range of ages. While this workshop is designed primarily for teenagers and adults, students as young as age 7 may register to attend with an adult.

In this introductory workshop, students will learn how to coat their very own cyanotype paper and make contact prints using found or brought objects, plants, or photo negatives. Students will be able to experiment with layering their materials to create one-of-a-kind prints and may also experiment with toning their prints using natural materials to adjust the color.
Registered students have the option of sending 2-3 digital photographs that can be made into negatives for contact printing, but these images must be sent to crhea@uwf.edu at least one week prior to the workshop date.
