Lightning on the Coast: UWF Gulf Scholars

Join us for a fun and informative evening!
The UWF Gulf Scholars program aims to provide UWF students from all disciplines with the knowledge about “Florida’s Forgotten Coast” to address challenges specifically related to the Gulf and its communities while fostering the attitudes and expertise necessary to become responsible stewards of the Gulf region.
Seven UWF Gulf Scholars will be sharing their amazing work through a lightning-fast series of three-minute presentations:
Hannah Kilburn – Assessing the Preference of Pensacola Bay Oysters
Riley Hunt – Ecological and Community Health Impacts of Paper Mill Pollution in Coastal Regions
Madison Furlong – Dreaming of Disaster: Religious Allegory in Stories of Hurricane Michael Survivors
Brenna McClatchey – Investigating Microbiome Variation in the Eastern Mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki) Along a Chemical Continuum
Taylor Hardy – The Geographic Fingerprint of the Bermuda High
Shyan Fredrickson – Diet to Dementia
Simone Symister-Salmon – Community-Engaged Cancer Screening Outreach and Digital Health Promotion in Northwest Florida
This program is presented in conjunction with our current exhibition, STEAM2026, on view through January 17, 2027.
