Description

This is a designing, pinning, and sewing workshop. You will learn about fiber art and how to work with fabrics, yarns, beads, and ribbons that have just been sitting around waiting for something exciting to happen! Basic embroidery stitches will be taught in this workshop, including the whip stitch and the running stitch.

The upcycled fabrics for your fiber art landscape will come from local interior design sample books. Bring your favorite landscape image, or rely on photo samples presented as reference. There will be many choices to be made during the workshop, including colors, textures, fabric weights.

By the end of this workshop, you will be well on your way to assembling your own landscape made of fabric! This will be stitched by hand and/or by machine, and can be further embellished and finished at home after the workshop at your leisure. Embellishments such as lace, yarn, and beads are all options to explore. A sewing machine will be available for those who want to use it, as time allows. If you have a portable machine, please bring it!

About the Instructor:

Cecilia Marshall has been sewing since she was a teenager living in New Orleans. Her knowledge of fabrics grew considerably after working at Britex Fabrics in downtown San Francisco in the 1970’s when “Art Quilting” became a popular medium. Cecilia is currently living in Florida, and has been a public and private art educator for twenty years. She has been honing her artistic skills for over fifty years. Her love for exploring and appreciating nature has been the warp of a very complex weave of interests, styles, as well as media; painting, botanical design, pyrography, stained-glass, and fiber arts. The stillness found in Cecilia’s work soothes the soul and feeds the appetite we all have for peace and calm found in nature.
