November 23, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Description

Explore the history and cultural relevance of silkscreening and its creative applications. This is an informative hands-on workshop focused on the process of making vibrant silk-screened prints, also known as screen printing. Students will learn the basics of this versatile technique, from image preparation to ink application, and will leave with their own printed artworks on paper.

For this workshop, students will consider several Japanese silk prints from the museum’s permanent collection, currently on view in the Celebrate 70 Exhibition. Students will then work with silkscreens of images created by a local Chinese American artist, Anastasia Leech, drawing inspiration from classic Chinese and Japanese artworks and dragon images. The year 2024 is the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese zodiac. The dragon is said to be the most auspicious of the zodiac signs, with the power to guide the final month of this year in the right direction.

No previous experience is necessary; pre-registration is required.    All materials and supplies are included. A white cotton tote bag will be provided for each student, and you may also bring your own white/light colored t-shirt to print on, if desired.
