Adult/Teen Workshop: Laser Cutting

Join UWF Professor Thomas Asmuth for a Laser Cutting Workshop! In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the basics of digital fabrication using a laser cutter in our SEA Makerspace inside the UWF Museum of Commerce.

 

This beginner-friendly session is designed for adults and teenagers ages 16+ and provides an overview of the complete process, including how the machine works, material types, and essential safety practices. Participants will work with a premade vector design to learn how to operate the laser cutter and observe how digital files are transformed into physical objects.

 

No prior experience is necessary, just an interest in learning new tools and technologies. Minimum of 6 students, maximum of 14 students. All materials and supplies are included in the cost of this workshop, and pre-registration is required.

 

About the Instructor:

Thomas Asmuth teaches digital and experimental media at the University of West Florida. He is a transdisciplinary artist whose practices are influenced by the intersections of art and science, identity and robotics. Asmuth exhibits his work in national and international venues, receiving his bachelor’s of arts degree from San Francisco Art Institute and a master’s degree in digital media from CADRE Laboratory for New Media at San Jose State University.

Audience

This workshop is designed for teens 16+ and adults. Teens must be accompanied by a paid adult registration. No previous experience is necessary to participate in this workshop!
